Aliphatic diisocyanates as well as unblocked or blocked polyisocyanates are substances manufactured for professional use. The chemical reactivity of these compounds, which is essential for their technical high-performance, is also associated with biological reactivity and toxicity. It therefore needs certain precautions and controlled conditions in handling and during application of these chemicals which cannot be warranted in a non-professional environment. ALIPA members hence strongly advise against any Do-it-yourself applications of Monomeric Diisocyanates as well as Polyisocyanates (DIY statement). Furthermore these chemicals should be handled only under conditions where the compliance to Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs) can be ensured.

Aliphatic isocyanate based products contribute significantly to the reduction of solvent emissions in the coatings and adhesives sector. Low viscous polyisocyanate hardeners for high solid coatings, aqueous polyurethane dispersions (PUD), 2-component water-borne polyurethane systems and blocked polyisocyanates for powder coatings offer a variety of high performance technologies to achieve more environmentally friendly systems. Our industry is committed to the world wide Responsible Care initiative. Therefore, our products are subject to intensive Product Stewardship programs. Within this framework we provide all necessary information to ensure safe handling and use of these products.

ALIPA members mainly manufacture:

Monomeric isocyanates are highly reactive compounds. Compared to the diisocyanate monomers, the biological reactivity of the corresponding polyisocyanate is significantly lower due to the lower vapour pressure and higher molecular weight. Following the above links, summarized information is provided on the properties, hazards and safety profiles of products which are provided by two or more ALIPA member companies. More detailed information on individual products or information on further Polyisocyanates and Blocked Polyisocyanates can be obtained from individual ALIPA member companies (e.g. in material safety datasheets, technical datasheets and brochures).
